Do people within hip-hop culture owe Gunna an apology? It certainly appears that way.
On Thursday, Young Thug stunned fans when he accepted a plea agreement that allowed him to walk free with time served and 15 years of probation. The “Ski” artist previously rejected a deal but chose to put an end to the already lengthy trial. As part of his sentencing, Thug was prohibited from contacting other members of the YSL case. However, in a shocking twist, he asked the judge for permission to work with Gunna.
Many were caught off guard by this move, as the “Bachelor” rapper previously accepted a plea deal of his own in December 2022. As part of his agreement, Gunna confirmed that YSL was a gang and had participated in illegal activity. For this reason, many dubbed the Atlanta star a “snitch,” accusing him of turning on Thug. As if fan criticism weren’t enough, many of Gunna’s colleagues made their disdain known. Lil Baby, Lil Durk, and Future were just a handful of rappers who threw Gunna to the waist side and lent all their loyalty to Thug. Despite Gunna maintaining he would never snitch on Thug, he was heavily ridiculed. Some even believed that those close to Thug dissed Gunna in their music.
On Baby’s December 2023 track, “350,” he rapped, “Ain’t never say nothin’ ’bout it, n**ga, you know you a rat.” In FERG’s October 2024 record, “Allure,” Future said in his verse, “I’m just a street n***a, just rappin’, my day ones went fed (Pluto)/You took a plea on my slime, won’t be surprised you ended up dead (Slatt).” While neither confirmed these lyrics were about Thug’s protege, they didn’t deny it once the backlash began.
Interestingly enough, Thug’s father, Jeffrey Williams Sr., came to Gunna’s defense several times. In one instance, he maintained that the 31-year-old had not done anything to jeopardize the RICO case.
“I love Gunna. Let me try to help the attorney clarify that a little simpler. Gunna hasn’t done anything whatsoever that can hurt us on this case, period,” he stated in a September 2023 interview with podcaster Infamous Sylvia.

With Thug breaking his silence and sharing his desire to work with his signee, it is time for the rest of the rap world to finally end their grudges with Gunna.
