Plies Sues Soulja Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla and Cardi B Over Alleged Beat Theft

Plies has filed a lawsuit involving Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy, alleging that their music incorporated elements from his 2008 track “Me & My Goons” without permission.

Legal documents obtained by TMZ outline Plies’ claims that the “infrared countdown beat” featured in his song has been “borrowed” over the years, starting with Soulja Boy’s 2010 hit “Pretty Boy Swag.”

According to Plies, Soulja Boy was the first to use the distinctive beat, and more recently, he claims that Megan and GloRilla’s song “Wanna Be” followed suit, becoming a popular track over the summer. Cardi B’s involvement came when she joined the “Wanna Be” remix, prompting Plies to include her in the suit, arguing that the artists have benefitted from a beat style he helped pioneer.

In addition to the artists, the lawsuit also names Megan’s Hot Girl Productions, Soulja Boy’s former label Collipark Productions, Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group, and Interscope as defendants. If successful, the case could have financial implications for multiple industry players.
