Newly drafted NFL athletes are learning their lesson left and right — delete. all. evidence.
West Virginia running back Wendell Smallwood is the latest athlete to have his past come back and haunt him. He was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles, number 153 overall in the 5th round, However it didn’t take long for the Internet to dig up an offensive tweet of his.
“75% philly n*ggas gay,” tweeted Smallwood in 2011. He was only 17 at the time he tweeted the message, but that didn’t stop social media from having a field day. Even worse, they managed to locate a tweet in 2012, in which Smallwood says, “Really hope I don’t go to Philly.” Ouch!
The Eagles haven’t addressed the tweets, and there’s no word as to whether they even have knowledge of their existence. Smallwood has since deleted his entire Twitter account; a very smart move considering how much he appeared to have once hated his future team.
So what have we learned during this draft season, kids?
