8Ball Opens Up About Diddy Never Inviting Him and MJG to Bad Boy Reunion Shows, Even Though They Were Previously Signed to Him [Video]

Over the weekend, popular podcast Drink Champs welcomed iconic southern rap duo 8Ball and MJG for their latest episode. Known for their contributions to Hip-Hop, the pair spoke on an array of topics, including their time spent with Bad Boy Records, which was a surprising move at the time given their Memphis roots.

When the two were asked about their decision to link up with the record label, 8Ball explained the duo drive to “go against the grain.” Reflecting on the journey, the rapper stated, “When people in Memphis was doing crunk music, we did more laid-back stuff. The same thing with the Bad Boy thing. When we left Suave and were looking for something new, we had already been doing business with Puff.”

The conversation revealed that the rap group wasn’t signed directly to the Bad Boy label but to its southern division, Bad Boys South. While some would’ve felt bothered by the placement, 8Ball admitted that it occasionally felt like a snub. However, he did defend Diddy, explaining that he was only following in the footsteps of other record labels, like Def Jam, who were looking to expand their brand at the time.

Meanwhile, 8Ball shared that Diddy never called them to perform at any of the Bad Boy reunion shows but wasn’t bothered by the decision.

“He was following their footsteps but at the same time some of them Bad Boy reunion shows we was never asked to be apart of none of that,” he continued. “But, I ain’t mad at none of that sh*t, like it is what it is.”

Nonetheless, 8Ball compared being a part of the Bad Boy family to loving Bologna until you learned what it’s made from while also clarifying that their time with the label wasn’t filled with negativity.

“We was doing something new and I have to tell my reality,” 8Ball said. “Before you know what the bologna is made of, you love it, until you see how they make the bologna…and what I mean is, nothing negative ever happened with us, ever, with dude. Nothing ever happened with 8Ball and MJG, ever. We just wanted to do something new because we looked up to bruh and them like that sh*t looked like something different. Like Biggie and all of them, he had a movement. Jodeci and Mary J. Blige, that sh*t was something. And we felt like we’re about to e apart of this sh*t.”
