Hugo, the man who outed singer Khalid, has issued an apology for his actions but claims he was pushed to do so.
In a lengthy Twitter statement, Hugo says he dated the singer for a while and considered living with him. While he didn’t mention Khalid by name, he admitted that the person in reference was the one he outed. Hugo claims that during their relationship, he began hearing rumors that he had broken into his ex-lover’s home. It seems this led to their demise, but Hugo wrote that four years later, the story of him robbing Khalid was still being spread, which prompted him to finally out the “Young, Dumb and Broke” star.
“The day I made those tweets, the day I outed them, I wasn’t in a rational state of mind. I had reached my breaking point. The stress, the accusations, the lies. It all built up until I went into a psychosis. I wasn’t thinking clearly. I was reacting from a place of deep pain and frustration,” he wrote in the lengthy statement.

Hugo states that Khalid’s management informed him they’d already learned who the real thief was. Unfortunately, the aspiring entertainer says the accusations had already been spread, and the damage had been done.
“I know that doesn’t excuse what I did. Outing someone is never okay, no matter how hurt or broken you feel. But I need you to understand that I was pushed to a place where I felt powerless, voiceless, and out of control. I’m not here to justify my actions. I’m here to take responsibility. But I’m also here to ask for understanding. I was manipulated, lied about, and emotionally abused for years. I reached a point where my mental health collapsed, and I made a mistake I deeply regret,” he wrote.
In the days following being outed, Khalid shared a statement denying that he’d abused Hugo in any way. He also stated that he was not hiding his sexuality but did not want to disclose that part of his personal life to the public.
