Following an unexpected health crisis during a sermon at the Potter’s House Church last week, Bishop T.D. Jakes has revealed he underwent an emergency surgery.
On Sunday, the 67-year-old addressed his congregation via video chat to share his gratitude for the prayers and well wishes he received. As he appeared on the screen, Jakes was met with a standing ovation from the church attendees and a round of applause.
“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” Jakes said. “I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit, had emergency surgery, survived this surgery. I’m back.”
He continued, “The doctor wants me to go slow coming back, but I’m back … and I’m thankful to God for His goodness and mercy.”
If you’re unaware, during his sermon a few days ago, Jakes suddenly went silent and was visibly shaking before a group of individuals rushed to his side. Moments later, the livestream was abruptly cut, leaving viewers concerned about what had occurred.
Throughout the following hours, speculations about the incident began circulating over social media, with most believing Jakes had suffered a stroke. However, in a statement, Jakes’ team assured everyone that he was in stable condition and under medical care. It remains unclear exactly what transpired with his health.
“The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers,” the statement read.
Additionally, Jakes’ daughter, Sarah Jakes Robert, released a statement addressing her father’s health scare, highlighting his strength and resilience.
“Today could’ve been a tragic day,” she said in a heartfelt video. “He’s strong. We’re trying to get him to sit down … but we really can’t thank you enough for your prayers and kind words.”
