Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda, whose swift rise to fame is attributed to his 2014 chart-topping song “Hot N*gga”, is suing the NYPD over an alleged false arrest on gun and drug charges, NY Daily News reports.
The rapper’s success took a major hit when police raided an apartment on Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn and seized weapons and drug paraphernalia on June 3, 2014. Shmurda, born Ackquille Pollard, along with several of his friends were taken into custody and charged in a 69-count indictment.
“When one of the occupants opened the door a slight bit to see who was there, Officer Douglas Corso and other police officers kicked in the door and illegally entered the residence without a search warrant,” read the suit filed Friday in Brooklyn Federal Court.
However, Pollard’s lawyer Derek Sells revealed that he did not file a civilian complaint with the Civilian Complaint Review Board about an illegal search.
Neither he gun, nor the drug paraphernalia seized from the apartment belong to Pollard, he claimed. Which lead to an eventual dismissal of the Brooklyn gun charge. However, Pollard, 21, is currently facing weapons possession charges in separate cases in Manhattan and the Bronx.
As a result of the arrest, Pollard claims he suffered permanent “nervous shock and mental anguish.”
