Hannah Kobayashi's Family Says They've Spoken to Her a Month After Her Disappearance

Hannah Kobayashi’s puzzling disappearance has taken a new turn as Los Angeles police revealed she intentionally missed her connecting flight from Maui to New York City at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 8th.

Despite the unsettling circumstances and her family’s relentless search, including her father’s tragic death by apparent suicide on November 24th, questions remain about whether her disappearance was voluntary. The 30-year-old Hawaii native was last heard from on November 11th, three days after missing her flight. Surveillance footage captured her at various locations in Los Angeles, including The Grove shopping mall and a train station. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell stated, “Our hearts go out to the Kobayashi family during this unimaginable time of grief. We remain fully committed to locating Hannah.”

Adding to the mystery, Kobayashi sent odd text messages and made online payments to unfamiliar individuals. She told relatives she was “tricked” into giving away her funds, described undergoing a “very intense spiritual awakening,” and mentioned she was heading back to the airport but might need help. Her final messages included cryptic phrases like “Matrix-style” and reassurances of being safe.

Kobayashi’s last confirmed sighting was on November 11th at LAX, where she interacted with an airline agent but did not board a flight. Later that evening, CCTV footage placed her at a downtown L.A. train station with an unidentified individual. Her phone activity ceased around the same time.

Described as a creative, entrepreneurial aspiring photographer, Kobayashi had planned to visit family and attend a concert in New York. However, family members say the texts and her decision to miss the flight were uncharacteristic.
