New York State Considers CEO Threats Hotline After the Slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

More details are emerging about the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, including a hoax bomb threat on the day of the slaying.

On the very day police informed Thompson’s family of his murder in New York City, there was a bomb report at the slain executive’s Minnesota home. Thompson was fatally shot just before 6:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, December 4th, by a masked man outside the New York Hilton Midtown.  Hours later, Maple Grove police received a chilling email claiming a pipe explosive had been planted at Thompson’s residence. A bomb squad was dispatched, but thankfully, nothing was found. Authorities now believe the threat was a joke, but its timing is suspicious.

A Maple Grove police CAD report obtained by People reveals the New York Police Department had contacted Minnesota police that same morning to notify Thompson’s next of kin—his wife, Paulette. By nightfall, her home became the center of a bomb threat investigation. Adding another layer of intrigue, The Wall Street Journal reported that Thompson and his wife had been separated for years, with the CEO living apart from her and their two sons. Paulette told NBC News that before his murder, Brian had been receiving threats—though the specifics remain unclear, but it seems it could be related to insurance coverage.

“Yes, there had been some threats… basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details,” she said.

Meanwhile, the NYPD continues its desperate search for answers. The killer, who fled on a bicycle, remains at large. Police have released images of a “person of interest” in connection with the case.
