Judge Mathis Sued for July 2023 Incident Where He Allegedly Threatened to Shoot City Worker

Judge Mathis Sued for July 2023 Incident Where He Allegedly Threatened to Shoot City Worker

Judge Mathis is in hot water after allegedly threatening a city worker last July, with a lawsuit now in progress.

Ricardo Acosta, a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power employee, has filed a lawsuit accusing Mathis of endangering his life during a dispute over a parked dump truck. Acosta alleges the confrontation began when Mathis tried to leave his driveway but was blocked by the truck. Court documents reveal that Mathis exited his car and shouted, “Move the f**king truck out of the way.”

Acosta claims the judge stood behind the truck, refusing to move despite safety concerns due to the incline. When Acosta asked him to step aside, Mathis allegedly responded, “I do not give a f**k, and to run him over and see what happens.”

The situation reportedly escalated when Mathis went inside his house, returned with a pistol, and said, “I will bust a cap… you wanna f**k with me.” Acosta claims Mathis then left the scene.

The lawsuit accuses Mathis of assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress, seeking damages. Mathis’ attorney, Anahita Sedaghatfar, denied the allegations, calling the claims a “last-ditch attempt to extort” Mathis. She stated the judge acted out of concern for his safety, accusing Acosta of making threats and falsely imprisoning Mathis on his property. Sedaghatfar vowed to file cross-claims for defamation if the lawsuit proceeds.
