That's Baller: Juan Soto Signs a 15-year $765 million deal with the New York Mets

Juan Soto

Last night, the New York Mets announced they had signed All-Star outfielder Juan Soto to a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million deal—the largest in MLB history—outbidding their crosstown rivals, the Yankees, by $5 million.

Soto had a sensational season last year, finishing with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs.

After their meeting on Friday, many—including Mad Dog Chris Russo—believed Soto would stay with the Yankees. However, the 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic opted for the Mets, drawn by the opportunity to earn $50 million annually and become the first player in sports history with a contract of that length.

Soto’s arrival has thrilled Mets fans, who are eager to see him play alongside star shortstop Francisco Lindor. With Soto anchoring the lineup, expectations are high for an exciting season at Citi Field.

The Yankees, often held to sky-high expectations, operate under immense pressure to produce World Series victories, which can be draining for players long-term. Soto’s choice to join the Mets suggests he values stability and legacy over the constant demands of competing at the Yankees’ level.

As spring approaches, Mets fans are hoping Soto’s presence brings new energy to the team and helps them deliver a standout season.
