The best female basketball player in the world, A’ja Wilson, made history today—this time off the court. The 28-year-old is signing a six-year extension with Nike, as first reported by Boardroom’s Nick DePaula. Wilson was named one of Nike’s signature athletes in May. She initially signed with Nike following a historic college career and has only continued to dominate in the pros, winning back-to-back championships with the Las Vegas Aces in 2022 and 2023 and earning her second Olympic gold medal this year.
Last season, Wilson averaged 26.9 points and 11.9 rebounds for the Aces. Her long-awaited signature shoe, the ‘A’One,’ will debut next spring and will be sold alongside the rest of her Nike collection. Wilson will become the 13th WNBA athlete to have a signature shoe. Her deal is reportedly the highest-paid shoe endorsement ever involving a female basketball player.
With this historic contract, Wilson joins an elite class of athletes, including Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu, and college sensation JuJu Watkins, with major Nike rollouts on the way. As the face of women’s basketball, Wilson’s continued excellence is expected to drive the game’s growth and push her toward earning a potential fourth MVP title.
Congratulations to A’ja Wilson on this monumental achievement and her continued success heading into 2025!
