“With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco,” the family wrote. “His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love. Through his music, passion, and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact.”

Maco had been hospitalized since December 12 after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his condition deteriorated after slipping into a coma. He passed away surrounded by loved ones in a Los Angeles hospital.

The family also expressed their gratitude for the support Maco received throughout his journey. “Thank you for standing by him throughout his journey. Today, we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way,” they said, inviting fans and friends to share memories and condolences.

OG Maco became a hip-hop sensation in 2014 when “U Guessed It” took the internet by storm. The track not only captured the energy of Atlanta’s vibrant rap scene but also cemented his status as a boundary-pushing artist. His success with the song brought him to the forefront of hip-hop, landing him a spot on the 2015 XXL Freshman list alongside artists like Vince Staples and K Camp.
