President-elect Donald Trump expressed his support for immigration visas for highly skilled workers in a recent statement, aligning himself with Elon Musk amid a heated debate within the MAGA movement.
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump told The Post on Saturday, referring to the H-1B program, which allows companies to hire foreign workers in specialty fields. “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program,” he added, despite restricting foreign worker visa access during his first administration and previously criticizing the program.
Musk, along with other tech leaders, emphasized the importance of the H-1B visa for ensuring American companies can access highly skilled labor, which may not be readily available in the U.S. workforce. The call for an expanded program has sparked opposition from MAGA hardliners, who argue Trump should prioritize American workers and tighten immigration restrictions.
Trump’s remarks came after Musk’s fiery response to critics, including a user on X who mocked Musk’s defense of the H-1B visa. Musk retorted, “The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B.” He also vowed to “go to war” on the issue, a stance that has drawn both support and criticism from influential figures like Laura Loomer and Steve Bannon.
