New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is stepping up to help his community in the wake of the tragic Bourbon Street attack on New Year’s Day. The NBA star is donating $100,000 to the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Tragedy Fund to support victims and their families.

“As a father, son, and someone who loves the community, this hit me hard,” Williamson told ESPN. “This isn’t just about money — but standing together and making sure no one feels alone.”

Williamson is among several local figures offering support. New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan announced on social media that he is donating $25,000 to the fund. Meanwhile, Gayle Benson, owner of both the Saints and Pelicans, pledged $1.25 million to aid those affected.

“In the wake of the tragic events on Bourbon Street this New Year’s, we are fully committed to supporting the victims and their families,” Benson said in a statement. “Through the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund, we will provide vital assistance to those affected, ensuring they have the resources they need during this challenging time.”

The attack, which claimed the lives of 14 people and left several others injured, has sent shockwaves through the New Orleans community.

“It is our collective responsibility to support our community in times of hardship,” Benson continued. “And I will continue to stand with New Orleans as we heal together.”
