The husband of popular “The View” host, Sunny Hostin, is facing serious accusations of insurance fraud in one of New York’s largest-ever RICO cases.
Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Emmanuel Hostin has been named among nearly 200 defendants in a federal lawsuit alleging fraudulent medical practices. According to the suit filed by insurer American Transit, Hostin and others allegedly performed unnecessary surgeries and billed the company for substantial payouts, receiving kickbacks disguised as dividends.
“Hostin knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries,” claims the lawsuit, which seeks over $450 million in damages.
Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, dismissed the allegations as “a blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.” He accused American Transit of attempting to intimidate doctors while avoiding legitimate payment obligations.
The lawsuit highlights systemic exploitation of New York’s No-Fault Law, which mandates insurers cover up to $50,000 for accident-related medical expenses, though coverage for taxis and ride-share vehicles can exceed $200,000. The insurer alleges Hostin leveraged his position at Empire State Ambulatory Surgery Center for illegal kickbacks in exchange for patient referrals.
Sunny, a lawyer and Emmy-winning co-host of “The View,” has been married to Dr. Hostin since 1998. While the allegations loom, Sunny has publicly shared details of their life, including their 10-bedroom estate and their children.
Meanwhile, critics have questioned the legitimacy of the lawsuit, with some calling it a desperate tactic by American Transit to avoid financial liabilities. It’s unclear if Sunny will be addressing the matter on “The View.”
