Authorities Say Ex-LSU Star Kyren Lacy Died from "Self-Inflicted" Gunshot Wound

Kyren Lacy was just three months away from seeing his life and his family’s life change forever. A talented wide receiver, Lacy finished his season at LSU with 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He was known for his speed and impressive route-running skills.

However, after the unfortunate news released earlier this week, it seems that Lacy will never have a chance to play on Sundays. According to reports, on December 17th, 2024, Lacy was driving at high speeds when a wreck occurred near Lafourche Parish, as confirmed by the LSP police department.

Lacy entered the northbound lane in a no-passing zone, causing a head-on collision with a 2017 Kia Cadenza, driven by 78-year-old former Marine, Herman Hall. Lacy allegedly pulled off without offering aid or calling for help. Just two days after the crash, Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Hall’s family is demanding justice, and it seems likely that Louisiana will take a strict stance on Lacy’s actions. In a tragic parallel, rival Alabama’s alum, wide receiver Henry Riggs, had already made it to the Las Vegas Raiders. Riggs was involved in a hit-and-run accident in 2021 that killed a young woman and her dog. Riggs is up for parole in August 2026.

A long investigation and legal battle lie ahead in 2025, and it’s difficult to believe that Lacy will emerge from this situation unscathed. He is currently facing charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run.
