Offset, a hip-hop fashionista of sorts, has declared that the famed Chrome Hearts brand is officially becoming washed up.
The artist, who once had a close association with the label as both a supporter and a model, recently shaded Chrome Hearts wearers on his Instagram story. He shared a picture of himself staring blankly, with the words: “Yal n***as burning chrome out omg.”
Founded in 1988, Chrome Hearts has long held a special place in culture, with its appeal growing especially among musicians and athletes. Designers like the late Virgil Abloh and Karl Lagerfeld also held the brand in high regard. Even Offset’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Cardi B, has been a fan of the luxury streetwear line. But now, Offset’s words seem to suggest that its popularity has peaked.
His comments coincide with boxer Gervonta Davis inviting Chrome Hearts to collaborate with him.
“@chromeheartsofficial I think it’s time for us to come to an agreement..Becuz my influence is crazy rn fam,” the champion fighter wrote on Instagram.
Davis has been flaunting his extensive Chrome Hearts collection for some time, even going viral for a photo showing off a Chrome Hearts bean bag chair before a championship match. He also sported custom $100,000 Chrome Hearts shoes during a fight against Frank Martin.
Though it doesn’t appear that the Migos rapper was shading Davis, their differing views on the company showcase the many varying approaches to Chrome Hearts. As of 2021, the fashion house was estimated to be worth roughly $1 billion. Therefore, whether or not Offset is a fan, it’s evident Chrome Hearts has plenty of support.
