A Wisconsin teenager allegedly set fire to the Fond du Lac office of Republican Congressman Glenn Grothman early Sunday in protest against the TikTok ban, authorities report.

Police apprehended the 19-year-old suspect, who admitted to starting the blaze, saying it was “in response to recent talks of a TikTok ban.” The office, unoccupied at the time, sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.

The suspect, a Menasha resident, is currently held at the Fond du Lac County jail on arson charges, with additional charges anticipated. Local authorities and the district attorney’s office are investigating the incident.

However, Donald Trump stepped in, pledging to sign an executive order allowing the app more time to negotiate with the government. TikTok Policy later expressed gratitude on Twitter.

“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance… allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” the company wrote.

The arson incident highlights the escalating tensions surrounding TikTok’s future and the emotional effects of the app doing dark. As the app resumes operations, discussions on censorship and ownership continued to be a key talking point surrounding the popular platform.
