A Texas educator is being accused of encouraging ICE to visit her school and detain several of her Spanish-speaking students.
The substitute teacher at North Side High School in Fort Worth sparked outrage after allegedly posting inflammatory comments on Twitter, claiming many students “don’t even speak English.”
“Y’all should come to Fort Worth, TX, to Northside High School,” the post from the now-private account @HookEm232 read. “I have many students who don’t even speak English, and they are in 10th-11th grade. They have to communicate through their iPhone translator with me. The [U.S. Department of Education] should totally overhaul our school system in Texas too.”
This came in response to an ICE update announcing hundreds of arrests. The teacher also attacked a North Carolina educator for supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Fort Worth ISD released a bilingual statement addressing the controversy: “We are aware of a recent social media post referencing North Side High School… allegedly made by a substitute teacher and causing concern among our community. We take this matter very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances and ensure appropriate actions are taken.”
The district emphasized its commitment to a respectful and inclusive environment as the investigation unfolds. Meanwhile, the teacher’s identity has not been disclosed, and their account has been made private.
