Miller will be leaving Turner Sports and will not be a part of the NBA media deal for the first time in almost 20 years. The $77 billion deal has introduced two new players that haven’t been a part of NBA media—one in thirty years, NBC, and the other, Amazon Prime, for the first time ever.
It was reported by The Athletic that NBC had an interest in the former Hall of Famer. Now it is official—Miller will be joining Noah Eagle and Mike Tirico as the lead team. It is important for Amazon and NBC to have an appealing crew of commentators and former players to persuade NBA fans to care and appreciate the product.
Kevin Harlan, who has often been Reggie Miller’s broadcast partner throughout the NBA season, will also be joining Amazon Prime at the end of this season. Miller and one of the best sixth men to play the game, Jamal Crawford, will rotate as the top analysts for games. With Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki, and Taylor Rooks also joining Prime, the bidding wars will start to heat up for some of the hottest names in NBA media.
NBC has a unique opportunity with Reggie Miller, who was one of the star players when NBC and the NBA were at their peak. The years 1994 and 1995 were when Miller became the star that everyone in Indiana revered for several years.
