On Sunday, the Department of Defense confirmed the arrival of 500 Marines at Guantanamo Bay to establish facilities for deported migrants.
The Pentagon announced on social media that the troops are tasked with “preparing to expand the Migrant Operations Center,” a move that aligns with the Trump administration’s plan to temporarily house up to 30,000 deported migrants at the base.
These migrants are expected to remain at Guantanamo while awaiting processing before being returned to their home countries. The development follows remarks made by Trump last week, signaling the base’s role in accommodating the growing number of deported individuals.
