Trump announced Friday that he is revoking former president Joe Biden’s access to classified intelligence and ending his daily security briefings, calling it a direct response to Biden’s 2021 decision to deny him access following the January 6th Capitol riot.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, shortly after arriving at his Mar-a-Lago estate for the weekend.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings,” Trump wrote. “He set this precedent in 2021, when he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents.”
Trump’s move mirrors Biden’s decision in February 2021, when he revoked Trump’s security clearance over concerns about his behavior following the Capitol riot. At the time, Biden argued that Trump posed a national security risk and should not have access to sensitive intelligence.
