Just before Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, Drake’s legal team issued a statement targeting Universal Music Group (UMG) over its handling of the song “Not Like Us”
“UMG is masquerading as a champion of artistic freedom by calling its actions merely ‘entertainment,’ but there is nothing entertaining about pedophilia or child abuse in the real world,” the statement read, as shared by New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli. “We are confident that the evidence we will ultimately present at trial… will expose UMG’s gross prioritization of its own corporate profits and executive bonuses over its exclusively signed artists’ well-being and the truth.”
Drake’s legal team accused UMG of intentionally allowing the song’s release to stir controversy, despite its potentially damaging implications.
Despite the backlash, Kendrick Lamar still performed “Not Like Us” during the Super Bowl, fueling further speculation about the ongoing tension.
This latest statement adds another layer to the escalating feud between Drake, Kendrick, and UMG, making it clear that the drama is far from over.
