Detroit Rapper Sues Lyft After Driver Denied Her a Ride Due to Her Weight

Plus-Size Influencer Dank Demoss Says Lyft Driver Refused Service Due to Her Weight: "That S**t Is Humiliating' [Video]"

Detroit rapper Dajua Blanding, known as Dank DeMoss, spoke out on The Breakfast Club Monday about her experience with Lyft, claiming a driver denied her service because of her weight.

“As I’m walking to the car, he looking funny. Doors getting locked. I’m just like—hell, you ain’t gonna let me in your car? For real?” she recalled. “So I pulled my camera out, and I kind of knew that’s what he was on.”

Blanding explained that she regularly takes standard Lyft rides and knew she could fit in the Mercedes that arrived, as her best friend owns the same car. Addressing critics who suggested she should have ordered a Lyft XL, she said, “I feel like I don’t have to order an XL. I know I can fit in a regular car.”

The rapper also pushed back against claims that she got the driver fired. “I never contacted Lyft. I never reported him. I didn’t do none of that,” she said. “But people were blaming me anyway.”

Blanding said the incident has sparked a larger conversation, with even Lyft drivers reaching out to express support. “They told me, ‘We’re not supposed to do that. I would have never done that to you,’” she shared.

She also revealed that Lyft reached out to her, but she refused to take their call. “This isn’t a joke to me. I want to see real change in their policies,” she said.

Blanding previously filed a lawsuit against Lyft, arguing that the driver’s actions violated Michigan’s anti-discrimination laws, which protect individuals from weight-based discrimination.
