Speaking to reporters, the former president made it clear he wants to be chairman of the Kennedy Center board, saying, “Because I want to make sure it runs properly. We don’t need woke at the Kennedy Center. We don’t need—some of the shows were terrible. They were a disgrace that they were even put on.”
When asked if he had actually attended any performances, Trump admitted he hadn’t. “I didn’t go, no. I got reports that were so bad, I didn’t want to—I didn’t want to go. There was nothing I wanted to see.”
Trump didn’t specify which shows he considered a “disgrace” or what changes he would make, but his comments align with his ongoing criticism of arts and entertainment institutions he deems too progressive.
The Kennedy Center, a nationally recognized hub for the arts in Washington, D.C., has traditionally maintained bipartisan support, though some conservatives have previously criticized certain productions for being politically or socially charged.
