Elon Musk’s Tesla Lands Potential $400M Cybertruck Deal Under Trump as His Companies Secure $230M in Federal Contracts

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been pushing to cut federal spending, but his own companies are still reaping major government contracts. In 2025 alone, Tesla and SpaceX have secured $230 million in federal funding—despite Musk’s public stance against wasteful government spending.

One of the largest potential deals involves a $400 million State Department contract for “Armored Tesla (Production Units).” While the contract doesn’t specify Cybertrucks by name, Musk has repeatedly promoted the vehicle as a “futuristic battle tank” with a stainless steel exterior. However, the Cybertruck has been plagued with production issues, multiple recalls, and disappointing retail sales since its 2023 debut.

Musk’s increasing influence over federal spending—while simultaneously benefiting from major government contracts—has raised eyebrows. His push for efficiency in public budgets appears to contrast with Tesla and SpaceX’s continued reliance on federal funding.
