Shonda Rhimes has officially stepped down from her role as treasurer of the Kennedy Center, following a controversial shift in leadership that placed Trump as chairman of the prestigious arts institution.
A spokesperson for the award-winning producer and writer confirmed the news, stating, “Please be advised that as of today, Shonda Rhimes has resigned from the board of the Kennedy Center.”
Rhimes, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, had been serving as one of the board’s officers. However, her departure comes just hours after Trump-appointed board members voted him in as chairman, marking a major change in the historically bipartisan organization.
This exodus follows Trump’s decision to remove all Kennedy Center board members appointed by former President Joe Biden, leaving only his own loyalists in control.
Rhimes, a powerhouse in Hollywood known for hits like Grey’s Anatomy and Bridgerton, has long been a champion of the arts. Her resignation signals deep concerns about the future direction of the Kennedy Center under Trump’s leadership.
