The NAACP has announced that the legendary Wayans family will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. The ceremony will air live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, February 22, at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET and CBS.
Recognized as one of the most influential families in comedy and entertainment, the Wayans dynasty has reshaped the landscape of film, television, and stand-up comedy. Their groundbreaking work, spanning multiple generations, has broken barriers, redefined mainstream comedy, and paved the way for Black entertainers.
NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson praised the family’s lasting impact, stating, “For decades, the Wayans family has been at the forefront of comedy, breaking barriers and opening doors for waves of entertainers. Their legacy continues to advance and uplift communities.”
Keenen Ivory Wayans led the charge in revolutionizing television with In Living Color, the Emmy-winning sketch comedy series that launched the careers of Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, and multiple Wayans family members. Damon Wayans Sr., Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans followed with hit TV shows and films, including My Wife and Kids, The Wayans Bros., White Chicks, Scary Movie, and Don’t Be a Menace. Kim Wayans made her mark as an actress, writer, and producer, while the next generation, including Damon Wayans Jr., continues to build on the family’s rich legacy with standout roles in Poppa’s House, Happy Endings, and New Girl.
Now, Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn Wayans are bringing back one of their most successful franchises, with a Scary Movie reboot set for June 12, 2026. Marlon is also touring the country with his WILD CHILD Tour, leading up to his sixth stand-up special.
The NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame honors individuals and groups who have made pioneering contributions to their industries. The Wayans family joins an esteemed list of past inductees, including Oprah Winfrey, Eddie Murphy, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Spike Lee.
The 56th NAACP Image Awards will extend to 2.5 hours this year and will be a star-studded celebration of Black excellence. Fans can vote for select categories at www.naacpimageawards.net, and winners will be revealed live on February 22.
