The Memphis Grizzlies and Ja Morant have had a rollercoaster relationship, from playoff highs to controversial videos that resulted in lengthy suspensions for the 25-year-old. After playing only nine games last season due to a suspension and subsequent injury, the Memphis Grizzlies have ensured that the team’s versatility is a key component of their success.
With five players averaging double figures and another four averaging nine points per game, the team has built a culture where everyone’s contribution is essential. Morant, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, has been his usual sensational self when on the court. In 32 games this season, he has averaged 20 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.
His nightly highlights continue to fill seats, but according to The Ringer’s Howard Beck, Morant could be the next superstar on the move. A front-office executive reportedly told Beck to “keep an eye on Ja this summer.”
“Somebody out of the blue said, ‘Keep an eye on Ja this summer,’” Beck reported. “I’m just saying it’s one of those things I’m just kind of keeping an eye on if they were to flame out early.”
Potential landing spots include Miami, Orlando, and Houston.
It’s worth noting that Beck has been speculating about a potential Morant trade for years. While that doesn’t necessarily discredit the latest report, there have been no clear indications that the Grizzlies are ready to part ways with their star.
As the second half of the season begins this week, Memphis sits second in the Western Conference, aiming to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Until the offseason—or unless the team collapses—trade rumors remain just noise.
