MSNBC’s Joy Reid has finally spoken out about the cancellation of her primetime show, “The ReidOut,” following reports of a major shake-up at the network under new president Rebecca Kutler.
Reid took to BlueSky to address everyone who reached out to her following the unfortunate news, as well as her team.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets. So very proud of ‘The ReidOut’ team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters and friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time,” she wrote.
The longtime MSNBC anchor, known for her sharp critiques of Donald Trump, is being replaced by a new panel show featuring Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders Townsend.
MSNBC has declined to comment on the decision, but sources suggest Kutler is making sweeping changes to boost ratings. Alex Wagner, another weeknight anchor, was also removed as part of the restructuring.
Reid, who previously hosted “AM Joy,” has been a fixture at the network since 2016. Despite her show’s cancellation, she remains one of MSNBC’s most recognizable personalities. “The ReidOut” premiered on July 20th, 2020.
Her exit comes amid reports that MSNBC has struggled with declining viewership, with Nielsen data showing “The ReidOut” lost nearly half its audience after the 2020 election. Additionally, MSNBC reportedly asked Reid and other top anchors to take significant pay cuts to stay on the air.
