Detroit artist and viral sensation Dank DeMoss stopped by The Baller Alert Show to talk about her skyrocketing fame, music career, and the controversy that put her in the spotlight.
During the interview, Dank reflected on the viral Lyft incident that sparked widespread conversation online. She explained that the situation unfolded after a driver refused to let her into his vehicle, despite her knowing she could fit. “I really wanted people to see how people my size get treated sometimes,” she shared. After posting the video, it quickly blew up, drawing both criticism and support. While some accused her of feeling “entitled,” others recognized the discrimination and rallied behind her.
Despite the social media firestorm, Dank remains unfazed by her newfound visibility. “I always go viral, but I feel like this was the biggest moment for me,” she admitted. However, she emphasized that her music career was already thriving before the controversy. Having started music at an early age, she transitioned from singing to rapping in 2016 after her father’s passing. “His death made me go hard with the music,” she revealed.
Dank, who hails from Detroit, spoke on the city’s rising influence in the rap game, noting how the industry now actively seeks talent from the area. When asked about artists she’s compared to, she acknowledged the frequent comparisons to rap legend MC Lyte but insists she has her own unique style.
Beyond music, the conversation took a fun and unexpected turn when the hosts asked about her love life. While Dank played it coy, she eventually admitted to being single, saying, “It takes a lot for me to like somebody.” She also got candid about her past experiences, sharing that she used to date women but now prefers men, explaining, “I need somebody more dominant than me.”
In addition to discussing her latest single, Let You Go, Dank gave fans insight into her creative process. She revealed that her songwriting is inspired by real-life experiences, though she laughed off speculation about whether her new song was about someone specific.
As the conversation wrapped, Dank reflected on her growing success and teased what’s next, hinting at more music and continued momentum in the industry.
