Snoop Dogg recently announced his partnership with Tune.FM, a Web3 platform focused on transparency and fairness.

He made it clear, saying, “I don’t f**k with Spotify anymore. I’m only on Tune.FM.” Tune.FM uses blockchain technology and its cryptocurrency, JAM, to provide instant micropayments per second streamed, giving artists better pay and control over their content.

Snoop’s frustration with Spotify stems from a shocking reveal in a Business Untitled Podcast interview, where he shared earning less than $45,000 for a billion streams.

“They just sent me some sh*t from Spotify, where I got a billion streams. My publisher hit me. I said, ‘Break that down, how much money is that?’ That sh*t wasn’t even $45,000,” he said.

Spotify responded, saying, “We can’t speak to endorsement deals for Web3 companies but … $45K for a billion streams? It’s well documented that a billion streams on Spotify generates millions of dollars to rights holders. It’s unfortunate to hear that Spotify’s payments didn’t make it through to Snoop,” adding, “Snoop’s a legend and, hopefully now that he owns Death Row Records, he’s seeing more of that money.”

Snoop’s move to Tune.FM could signal a shift in the streaming platforms. With the release of his new single “Spaceship Party”, Snoop is leading the charge for a more artist-friendly future in music streaming.
