The Seattle Seahawks traded star receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers over the weekend, just days after Metcalf requested a trade from Seattle. This move follows the Seahawks’ earlier decision to trade quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Metcalf spent his first six seasons with Seattle, emerging as one of the team’s top offensive weapons. He became the number two receiver behind second-year rising star Jaxon Smith-Njigba, finishing his tenure with 438 catches for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns. As part of the trade, the Ole Miss product agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension with Pittsburgh.
Metcalf’s girlfriend, singer Normani, is reportedly close with Pittsburgh quarterback Russell Wilson’s wife, singer Ciara. The couples were spotted together at an event last week, sparking speculation that Metcalf and Wilson may have discussed teaming up to lead Pittsburgh to a division win next season. The Steelers are also reportedly exploring their quarterback options, including Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, and Wilson.
Pairing Metcalf with the streaky George Pickens could be a major offensive boost for Pittsburgh. Metcalf’s ability to draw defenders while still playing as a secondary option makes him a valuable asset. If the Steelers can solidify their offensive line and settle on a quarterback, they could enter the next NFL season as one of the most unpredictable and dangerous teams in the league.
