A woman who accused former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson of rape and sexual assault in the early 1990s has officially withdrawn her lawsuit.
According to a letter filed with the U.S. District Court Northern District of New York, the woman is “voluntarily discontinuing this Action with prejudice,” meaning the case cannot be refiled. The letter, dated March 7, also noted that both parties are finalizing a formal stipulation of discontinuance.
Tyson, 58, has denied the allegations, which accused him of sexually assaulting the woman in the back of a limousine in 1990. She initially filed the lawsuit in January 2023, seeking $5 million in damages. An amended complaint later clarified the date of the alleged assault.
Daniel Rubin, Tyson’s attorney, said in a statement, “While not surprising, given the baseless allegations, we are pleased with the result – a complete withdrawal of all claims without any compensation, concession, or settlement of any kind from Mr. Tyson. This suit never should have been filed and this is the correct outcome.”
The attorney representing the woman, Darren Seilback, has not publicly commented on the withdrawal.
