After her recent drug test controversy, boxer Claressa Shields is shedding more light on what may have gone wrong.

During a recent appearance on Deion Sanders and Rocsi Diaz’s new Tubi talk show, “We Got Time Today,” which airs on Tuesday, March 18th at 8:00 PM, the champion revealed that the test she took was a mouth swab, which may have been faulty.
“I think it was a lot of mistakes that happened with the test itself, with the mouth swab, before it got to me,” she explained.
Shields shared that her “heart dropped” when she first learned that she had failed the drug test. After further investigation, the fighter was told that the swab had inaccurately shown that she had smoked marijuana. Despite this, Shields says neither she nor her team were concerned, as she does not use the drug.
“I went and took a urine test the next day and then the urine test came back negative. And a urine test goes back 30 days,” Shields added.
After being suspended by the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission, Shields continued to insist that the situation was a misunderstanding. She even suggested that secondhand smoke could have been responsible for the false positive.
When her urine test came back negative, proving she hadn’t consumed marijuana, Shields took to Twitter to share the good news, announcing that she was no longer suspended.
“Officially unsuspended! But y’all a little quiet! Y’all was real loud about me ‘supposedly’ smoking marijuana and being suspended! No worries! And still an Undisputed heavyweight champ! I have the Order to prove it,” she wrote.
