Man Pleads Guilty in 2022 Killing of Atlanta Rapper Trouble, Sentenced to 20 Years

On the same day jury selection was set to begin, the man accused of killing Atlanta rapper Trouble, born Mariel Semonte Orr, pleaded guilty to felony murder in a Rockdale County courtroom.

Atlanta News First reports that Jamichael Jones entered a negotiated plea deal on Friday and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. As part of the agreement, prosecutors chose not to pursue the remaining charges, which included malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, criminal damage to property, and family violence battery.

Trouble was shot and killed on June 5, 2022, outside an apartment complex in Conyers, Georgia. Police arrived on the scene around 3:20 a.m. and found the 34-year-old rapper with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say Trouble had been visiting a female friend when a domestic altercation unfolded. Jones, who had a previous relationship with the woman, confronted the rapper, leading to the fatal shooting.

Jones turned himself in to police days later after being urged to do so by his mother, according to Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett.

Trouble was a respected figure in the Atlanta hip-hop community, known for his collaborations with Drake, The Weeknd, Jeezy, 2 Chainz, and Migos.
