Chris Brown was released on $250,000 bail Tuesday night after being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon following a standoff with Los Angeles police at his home.
The arrest followed a claim from a woman named Baylee, a model, who told outlets including TMZ, E! News and the Los Angeles Times that Brown pointed a gun at her. She told Entertainment Tonight that she went to Brown’s home to talk about being cast in one of his videos, and that the evening started out casual. She claimed a friend of Brown’s got upset while she was looking at jewelry, and that Brown then pulled out a gun and told her to leave. She said she fears for her life and was still deciding whether to press charges.
Brown’s side has pushed back. His attorney, Mark Geragos, told the Los Angeles Times that police did not find a gun during their search of the home, and Brown dismissed the situation in an Instagram video. Brown has not been convicted of anything, and the investigation was ongoing.
Separately, TMZ reported that Baylee is wanted for questioning in New York City in connection with an alleged 2013 purse theft at The Plaza hotel. According to that report, a designer purse was taken from another woman during an argument. Baylee has not been reported as charged, and we did not see a public response from her to the TMZ report at the time of publishing.
For now, this is a case of competing accounts, and the legal process will decide what actually happened. We will keep you posted.
