Netflix is officially bringing Pop the Balloon, the viral dating show that’s captivated social media, to the big stage with a LIVE weekly version premiering Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
Hosted by Emmy-nominated actress and comedian Yvonne Orji (Insecure), Pop the Balloon LIVE will stream exclusively on Netflix and take fans inside an unfiltered, high-stakes dating experience—where every connection is real-time, and every balloon pop could mean a goodbye.
This isn’t just your typical dating experiment. Contestants—many of them familiar faces from reality TV—must form connections while guarding their balloon from accidental or intentional sabotage. One pop, and they’re out. The show ups the ante with celebrity surprises, live eliminations, and spontaneous twists delivered directly to viewers each week.
Among those joining the wild ride this season are Johnny Bananas (The Challenge), Chase DeMoor (Too Hot to Handle), Farrah Abraham (Teen Mom), and Zaina Sesay (The Ultimatum). Let’s just say, they’re in for an entirely new kind of reality check.
Pop the Balloon LIVE is executive produced by Matt Sharp, Dan Adler, and Bonnie Biggs of Sharp Entertainment (part of Sony Pictures Television), alongside creators and executive producers Bolia Matundu (BM) and Arlette Amuli, and Ellen Rocamora.
“Partnering with BM, Arlette and Netflix has been an incredible experience,” said Matt Sharp. “This new iteration builds on the original’s core concept while pushing the boundaries of connection, chemistry and unpredictability.”
For BM and Arlette, it’s a full-circle moment. “From day one, we’ve kept love and fun at the heart of the show,” the creators said. “Watching it evolve and soar beyond our wildest dreams has been truly exciting. Yvonne is engaging, witty and authentic—and we are looking forward to her serving as the host for the reimagined version at Netflix!”
Orji, who fans know as the beloved but unlucky-in-love Molly from Insecure, is bringing both heart and humor to the live experience. “After playing Molly for five seasons, I know a thing or two about looking for love in a hopeless place,” she joked. “As host, I’m looking forward to striking that delicate balance of heart and humor for our daters and the Netflix audience at home.”
