Nintendo Just Delayed U.S. Switch 2 Pre-Orders and Trump’s Tariffs Are the Reason Why

Nintendo is pressing pause on U.S. pre-orders for the upcoming Switch 2 due to economic uncertainty caused by the Trump administration’s latest round of tariffs. The company had planned to begin pre-orders on April 9 but now says it will reassess timing as it evaluates how the new trade measures could impact distribution and pricing.
In a statement shared through GameStop, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 is still scheduled to launch in the U.S. on June 5, 2025. However, with tariffs creating instability in global markets, especially around electronics and imports from Asia, the company is holding off on early sales until there is more clarity.
While Nintendo has diversified some of its manufacturing outside China, a significant portion of its supply chain remains based in Asia. That makes it particularly sensitive to shifts in U.S. trade policy. The new tariffs appear to have introduced just enough uncertainty to force a temporary change in plans.
GameStop assured fans that it is working closely with Nintendo and will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available. For now, gamers eager to get their hands on the Switch 2 will have to wait a little longer to lock in their pre-orders.
