Fetty Wap’s sister is calling for officials to have compassion for her brother.

In a heartfelt message posted to Fetty Wap’s Instagram, Divinity Maxwell-Butts urged for his release, saying, “April is Second Chance Month—a time to recognize that people deserve redemption, not just punishment.”

The “Trap Queen” star is currently serving time after pleading guilty in 2022 to federal drug charges involving over 500 grams of cocaine. He is slated for release in 2027.

“My brother has taken responsibility and served over half his sentence for a nonviolent offense,” she continued. “Justice should also mean mercy. His sentence should be commuted so he can come home to his family, his children, and his purpose. It’s time.”

Fetty Wap has been open about his mistakes. In a 2023 interview with XXL, he admitted, “Nobody made me do it. Nobody forced me to do it… I’m thinking I could just run up a few million dollars, and I’m gon’ be good forever.”

He added, “The music wasn’t really doin’ that good… Instead of pursuing my career harder…I was a coward…I can’t let my family down.”

Despite his absence, Fetty’s music is back in the spotlight. His 2015 single “Again” recently hit No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 and re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 41.

The resurgence also propelled his self-titled album to No. 33 on the Billboard 200, its highest position since 2016.
