Billy McFarland is not backing down after Playa del Carmen, Mexico officials declared that Fyre Fest 2 will not take place in their city.

The controversial businessman quickly took to Instagram to dispute the claims, insisting that the festival is still on track.

“FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025, to ensure a safe and successful event,” McFarland posted online. “All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”

This statement came in response to Playa del Carmen’s city hall announcement, which firmly stated: “No event of that name will be held in our city. There are no records, plans, or conditions that indicate the holding of such an event.”

Despite the official rejection, McFarland’s event producer, voiced frustration over the situation. TMZ reported that Botero allegedly texted, “They [the government] posted on X, Instagram, etc giving their blessing and support and then yesterday they say we’ve never heard of them—it’s hilarious.” He added, “They’re just lying completely… we plan on making it very public and showing all of the evidence. We will move it somewhere else.”

This setback follows Isla Mujeres’ similar claim of no knowledge of the event. However, McFarland continues to push forward, with Antonio Brown previously announcing his performance at the event in May.

McFarland’s failed 2017 version of the Fyre Fest landed him in prison and a $26 million restitution order. Nevertheless, he is confident that Fyre Fest 2 will go off without a hitch.
