Amazon has started canceling inventory orders for products made in China, Vietnam, and Thailand, catching vendors off guard and raising concerns about how the company is responding to Donald Trump’s latest tariff threats, according to Bloomberg.
The cancellations came shortly after Trump announced on April 2nd that his administration plans to expand tariffs to over 180 countries and territories. The affected items reportedly include beach chairs, scooters, and air conditioners, products typically sourced from Asia.
While Amazon hasn’t publicly commented on the move, several vendors believe the sudden decision was directly tied to the potential rise in import costs. One longtime supplier of beach chairs said a half-million-dollar order was canceled after the products were already manufactured, leaving them stuck with inventory and factory bills.
E-commerce consultants and former Amazon insiders say similar cancellations have hit other vendors, many of whom were given no notice and no clear explanation. Instead, some received emails stating the orders were made “in error,” with instructions not to ship the items.
With global supply chains already under pressure, this latest wave of order cancellations is forcing sellers to reevaluate their partnerships and prepare for continued uncertainty under Trump’s trade policies.
