Now back in the White House, Donald J. Trump is wasting no time making his position clear on one of the world’s most devastating ongoing conflicts. In a statement posted to his social media platform, Trump distanced himself from the war in Ukraine, placing full responsibility on former President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“The war between Russia and Ukraine is Biden’s war, not mine,” Trump declared. “I just got here, and for four years during my term, had no problem in preventing it from happening.”
The 45th—and now 47th—President emphasized that he had maintained peace during his first term, arguing that world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, “respected your President!” He strongly denied any involvement in the origins of the war, saying, “I had nothing to do with this war, but I am working diligently to get the death and destruction to stop.”
Trump also reignited claims that the 2020 presidential election was “rigged,” arguing that if he had remained in office, the Russia-Ukraine conflict would never have escalated.
“President Zelenskyy and Crooked Joe Biden did an absolutely horrible job in allowing this travesty to begin,” Trump continued. “There were so many ways of preventing it from ever starting.”
While his statement echoed his long-held criticism of the Biden administration, it also marked a shift toward action. Trump emphasized the urgency of ending the war: “Now we have to get it to STOP, AND FAST. SO SAD!”
