Allen Iverson, NFL Stars Support Michael Vick at Norfolk State Spring Game

Michael Vick and the Norfolk State Spartans put on a show at their Spring game on Saturday, featuring appearances from several sports legends. NFL quarterback Tyrone Taylor, boxing champion Keyshawn Davis, Virginia Senator Aaron Rouse, and Congressman Bobby Scott all came out to support first-year head coach Michael Vick.

Norfolk State’s decision to hire the former legendary quarterback has brought a surge of excitement, especially with Vick being a hometown hero. His return to Norfolk adds even more intrigue and enthusiasm, as someone of his caliber committing to the program brings major attention. NBA legend Allen Iverson echoed that sentiment during the Spring game.

“It’s a beautiful feeling to be out here, all the people out here embracing Mike and what he’s trying to do for Norfolk State,” Iverson said. “I’m here like this is my thing. I want to be a part of this. I want a lot to do with this.”

Iverson’s statement holds weight in a city like Norfolk and a state like Virginia — both known for producing high-level NFL talent. For Vick, leading a team just five miles from where he grew up is a rare opportunity. The backing of the community will be just as important as the work being done on the field.
