Disgraced former congressman George Santos has been sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in federal prison and ordered to pay over $373,000 in restitution for a wide-ranging fraud scheme.
A New York judge handed down the sentence Friday, siding with prosecutors who described Santos as a “pathological liar” who exploited donors, fabricated his life story, and showed no remorse. They pointed to his post-scandal podcast Pants on Fire with George Santos as proof of his continued dishonesty.
Santos pleaded guilty to two felony charges last year and admitted to using campaign funds for personal expenses. Despite promising restitution, he hasn’t paid a dime, prosecutors said.
Santos has floated the idea of seeking a pardon from Donald Trump. He was expelled from Congress in 2023 and has since monetized his notoriety through Cameo and media deals.
He remains under a court order to repay his victims and forfeit $200,000.
