Just days after his eldest daughter’s sixth studio album, and second visual project, Mathew Knowles is speaking out on who he thought Beyonce was referring to in the album. Contrary to popular, and majority belief, Queen Bey’s father says it’s not at all about Jay-Z, Becky with the good hair, or him for that matter.
“Let me tell you who she’s talking about, can I tell you who she’s talking about? She’s talking about you,” he expressed in an interview with E! News, “You put that in context for you personally. She’s talking about you and everybody that is you, that’s who she’s talking about.”
He goes on to explain that the captivating, women’s anthem, is not in the least bit autobiographical and instead a ploy to relate to her female dominant audience.
“I think that’s the beauty of her creativity and I think that’s what makes it so special, is that it relates to everyone,” he said. “Every one of us have been disappointed before and have had to go through the grieving process of anger and, you know, disappointment and then acceptance and forgiveness. And I think that’s why this again is touching so many people, because it’s universal. Everybody can relate to it.”
Mathew says that he is very proud of his daughter, “As a father I am extremely proud of Beyoncé,” he shared. “I mean, Beyoncé just keeps pushing the envelope, pushing the envelope and setting an example of the whole industry.”
I’m not surprised Mr. Knowles has refuted the album’s meaning, considering she not only called her husband out for his infidelities, but him too; and he’s never been able to comfortably admit his wrongs, despite fathering two children outside his marriage. Let’s not forget, he also said Solange and Jay-Z’s fight in the elevator was a marketing ploy too.
