Gamers who have been waiting for the next chapter of Rockstar’s iconic crime saga will have to be patient a bit longer. The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has been officially delayed, with a new release date set for May 26, 2026. But to hold fans over, Rockstar Games just dropped a brand-new trailer giving a deeper look into what’s coming.
The latest trailer introduces more of the game’s dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia, as they navigate the sun-soaked and chaos-filled streets of Leonida — a fictional Florida-inspired state. The trailer opens with Jason shirtless, fixing a rundown beach house before linking up with Lucia fresh out of prison. But they do not waste time. From robbing stores and dodging police to celebrating “new beginnings,” the pair jump straight into a life of crime and adrenaline.
Set in the reimagined Vice City, the trailer gives fans a glimpse of the neon-drenched party scene, wild police chases, jet ski getaways, and bank heists that define the world of GTA. It is a full-blown return to the chaos and open-world storytelling that made the franchise iconic, now with a modern twist and new energy.
Rockstar’s official description says the game follows Jason and Lucia as they get pulled into a massive conspiracy after a simple heist goes wrong. The duo is forced to trust each other more than ever to survive the darkest corners of America’s brightest place.
While fans were originally expecting a 2025 launch, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed the delay and addressed fans directly. “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” the company said. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
