Tom Brady shared some words of wisdom to Shedeur Sanders following his NFL Draft drama.

Appearing on Logan Paul’s ”Impaulsive” podcast, Brady reflected on Sanders’ surprising slide to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Though projected as a first-round pick, the 23-year-old quarterback was selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. Brady, who famously fell to pick 199 in 2000, reached out to his mentee with encouragement rooted in experience.
“I actually texted Shedeur cause I know him very well, and I said like, ‘Dude, whatever happens, wherever you go…That’s your first day. Day two matters more than the draft,'” Brady said. “I was 199, so who could speak on it better than me, like what that really means. Use it as motivation, you’re going to get your chances, go take advantage of it.”
Brady emphasized that it’s not where you start, but what you do when given the opportunity.
“Wherever you end up going…It’s about your performance. What do you do when you get there? Because you’re going to get there,” he added.
There was speculation that the Las Vegas Raiders, where Brady is a minority owner, might draft Sanders. Instead, they picked Montana State’s Tommy Mellott and North Dakota State’s Cam Miller.
Now with the Browns, Sanders will wear No. 12, the same number Brady wore throughout his storied career with the Patriots and Buccaneers. The jersey might be a fresh start, but the message from Brady is clear: prove them wrong, on your terms.
