After the disappointing finish to the Milwaukee Bucks‘ season, losing in the first round to the Indiana Pacers, the speculation began—whether All-Pro forward Giannis Antetokounmpo had finally grown tired of his team and their confusing direction. A ruptured Achilles injury to All-Star point guard Damian Lillard has already put next season in question, as the 34-year-old guard will be aiming to return, preferably by January. In what capacity? We don’t know.
That’s the concern for a perennial All-Star who is at the peak of his powers. Since winning a championship in July 2021, the Bucks have not been able to get over the hump. Making the playoffs is not enough anymore, and the questionable trade of Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma has spread even more concern. Milwaukee doesn’t have any of its first-round picks until 2031, so where does that leave the Greek Freak?
It was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania that Giannis has not made any firm decisions. However, he is “open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee.” It was also reported that the front office and Antetokounmpo’s representation will meet this offseason to discuss the future.
Antetokounmpo averaged 30 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, one block, and one steal in 34 minutes per game this season. His 55 double-doubles and eleven triple-doubles show his value—and why NBA teams call every offseason.
If Giannis decides to put his name on the market, he has given the city his all. I don’t see them not honoring his wish if that’s what he decides.
